Hannibal Dahl’s practice engages with the effects of technological acceleration, unfolding across media such as digital image processing, video, sculpture, drawing, and sound. A recurring theme in his works is the alienation that arises from the intervention of technological acceleration in human existence. He is particularly concerned with technology’s ability to restructure the experience of time and space and reshape the perception of the self and the physical body.

In Afgang 2025, Dahl presents two distinct aspects of his practice. In one, he begins with digital imagery before physically intervening with materials such as wax and pigments, creating a dialogue between mechanical precision and the tactile, corporeal experience of making. In the other, he presents hand-drawn anatomical renderings in graphite. Perhaps these works can be read as corporeal circuits – veins, networks and loops – mirroring technological structures while emphasising the organic inconsistencies of human biology. Prints are layered with sculptural elements, transforming flat surfaces into textured forms that demonstrate a metamorphosis. The use of wax introduces a visceral, bodily presence, blurred by the inclusion of wires and digital tones.

In these works, the body is fragmented and mirrored. The sense of space and time almost seem to contract. We feel the effects of alienation and acceleration. Maybe we are inspired to think about how technological progress restructures our reality, and where we sit in a feedback loop of existence, technology and transformation.
